guinevere was born on a warm midspring morning in carhaix, the capital city of cameliard to king leondegrance and a deceased mother. she knows nothing about her mother as the queen died in childbirth.since her mother died and the king never remarried, the princess remained an only child.her childhood, though blessed with everything a royal child could ever want was marred by a difficult relationship with her father, who had always resented and blamed his daughter both for her mother's untimely demise and for the fact that she was not a son.despite his desire for a son, he never took any steps to acquire one for fear of the woman or child dying in birth like guinevere's mother.in spite of his distate for his daughter, the king kept guinevere educated a number of subjects, including but not limited to arithmetic, several languages, poety and history. he did not, however, allow her to train in what he termed "male pursuits," such as fencing or archery.however, the weapons master of the castle, sir ballard, was more progressive and began training the princess in swordplay at six years old in secret. he thought it imperative that a noble girl know how to defend herself (though she would not be allowed to train with a steel sword of her own until she was twelve).these lessons were the highlight of her childhood and made her feel a bit less lonely, since she would lack friends for most of her early years.soon, the young princess quickly learned that despite her education, her father had no intention of handing her his crown when she came of age. instead, he intended to give it to her oldest male cousin, rience, when he came of age.he told her at just eight years old that "the only way [she] would ever get a crown was to marry one."this enraged guinevere and in spite, she trained that much harder with sir ballard, using it as a form of rebellion, since she had little agency over her life otherwise.it was when she was nine years old that she met the boy who would later become the most significant person in her life (other than lancelot): prince arthur pendragon. the princess had taken to sneaking into the woods to practice the moves sir ballard had taught her so that she wouldn't be spotted with a wooden sword.however, she was charged by a boar who burst through the trees into the clearing where she was practicing and knocked her to the ground before turning to charge her again. she let out a scream and brandished her sword from the ground in an attempt to defend herself.thankfully, a young boy and an elf heard her cries and burst through the clearing to the rescue, the boy making short work of the boar and saving her life. guinevere learns that the human boy in question is a guests of her father, named arthur, from a nearby kingdom; and the elf is introduced as balin. from that moment on and for the next two months of the arthur's trip, the three are inseperable and guinevere is overjoyed to have friends aside from sir ballard. they would spend their days by the river, playing and helping guinevere train.the goodbye is a difficult one, but the group continues to keep in touch through magical paper bought through the black market. guinevere looks forward to every letter, and hides them from the snooping eyes of her father's staff. this friendship with arthur and balin was hers, and she refused to allow her father to ruin one of the two good things she had (the other being her swordsmanship lessons).two years later, guinevere received word that the king of england, uther pendragon, was poisoned. arthur also explained in his letter that the family he had grown up with (his father and brother) knew all along they were not his blood and that he was the only son of uther, making him a prince and the heir to the throne.guinevere was shocked by this revelation, and angry that arthur's family had lied to him. she wrote back and received no response from him due to his distancing himself from his family. worried, the princess wrote balin, who informed her of arthur's desire to be away from his family and that he was currently staying with him and his family for a couple of weeks.relieved, guinevere promised that she would do whatever she could from cameliard to get information that could lead to who might have asassinated the king. finally, just before arthur was due to be crowned, she turned up something they could use.by the new year, arthur wrote to say he had been crowned and guinevere wrote back saying she had a lead she had found in his father's poisoning case and needed to discuss it. shortly after, the princess welcomed the english king back to cameliard to have the discussion in person. the assassin was eventually discovered at a tavern in the princess' country and she accompanied king arthur for support as he slayed the culprit.once again, she and arthur were made to say goodbye as he had to return to his own country. this goodbye was no less difficult than the one she, arthur and balin had shared as children. it was perhaps even more so, since guinevere was slowly beginning to realize her feelings for the new king were growing beyond friendship.after arthur returned to england to recruit knights, guinevere remained in cameliard, continuing to endure the sight of rience on the throne, as she had for the passed couple of years since her father died.she spent the next three years helping cameliard's poor in whatever ways small ways she could, since her cousin refused to implement any policies that might make life easier for them.the only joy she found aside from helping the poor was when arthur returned to cameliard in that third year, along with some of the knights he had recruited.

his intention behind the visit was to honor the bond of friendship he and the princess still shared as well as the bond of uther and her late father. with the help of arthur, his knights and the knights of cameliard, they managed to push her cousin out of the country.it was after this that the english king remained with guinevere for a few weeks, allowing them to begin a relationship after guinevere confessed how she had been feeling about him all these years.they were happy, and the following spring, the couple became engaged when arthur proposed to the princess in the gardens of cameliard's castle.in between their busy schedules, the couple exchanged a few letters about wedding planning, however most of the details were seen to by their advisors. directly after their wedding in the spring, guinevere's coronation took place and she officially became queen of logres.after the wedding, a knight named lancelot du lac approached arthur about joining the round table. once he successfully slayed a dragon on arthur's orders, he was welcomed back to logres by the king and queen and given his place at the round table.but the happiness in logres did not last, since there were many vying for the throne. the most formidable threat came in the form of arthur's sisters, morgause and morgana.they wanted revenge on uther, blaming him for the destruction of their family and their father's death. they also believed arthur's crown was rightfully morgause's.the year following guinevere and arthur's nuptials began eventfully when arthur's older half-sisters, along with one of logres' many opponents, entered camelot's castle in an attempted coup. after a rather quick battle between the sisters and the king and queen, along with the soldiers from each side, the king and queen suffered a loss and were exiled.lancelot and the other knights attempted to join them, but were arrested or exiled themselves. during the exile, guinevere and her husband moved quietly throughout the kingdom, doing their best to find allies wherever they could so they might retake the throne. with most of their knights gone, the royals were alone with no other help since merlin had disappeared without a trace.soon, the king and queen moved as far from camelot as they could. once settled, they traveled the realm, pleading with the great houses and kingdoms to offer support in the reclaimation of their thrones. even places who once thought themselves logres' enemies agreed to offer aide in exchange for protection from the woman who had usurped arthur's throne.before the monarchs could travel back to camelot, arthur was summoned by the lady of the lake to meet her where she dwelled. guinevere accompanied her husband and watched as the lady of the lake gifted him a magical sword, known as excalibur. the couple also got the opportunity to meet lancelot's cousins: the princes boris the younger and lionel. just like their older cousin, the boys pledged their fealty to arthur and guinevere.now that they had the sword and a number of allies, the group camped several miles away from camelot for a week to prepare to retake the throne. a long battle soon ensued, with arthur and guinevere emerging victorious. after banishing arthur's half-sisters, they reclaimed their thrones. a new dawn of peace emerged over the kingdom, with the populations of magical creatures rising exponentially. one night, during a celebratory feast, sir lancelot declared his feelings for both the king and queen equally.conflicted, arthur took a moment to himself until both guinevere and lancelot spoke to him seperately. having reached a consensus, the monarchs and the knight entered a polyamorous relationship.in 505, while camelot enjoyed a tenuous peace, the king and queen of logres welcomed fraternal twins, a daughter named naira and a son named llachu. unlike the usual custom of the crown passing to the eldest male child upon the king's death, arthur and guinevere named their daughter heir instead.five years later, roman soldiers captured the king outside of bath after murdering his guards. the soldiers then took him to rome, intending to make an example of him. it seemed as though they might succeed until a guard betrayed his own and smuggled him onto a ship back to camelot.just before arthur arrives home, guinevere, having heard news of his capture, prepares a small contingent of knights, intending to storm the roman captial and retrieve her husband. however, arthur arrives in enough time, the two are reunited, and the plan is called off.once arthur is healed from his ordeal, guinevere hands command of the kingdom back to him. after three months, the rulers receive word that emperor lucius tiberius demands they send tribute back to rome. the king and queen refuse, and war terms are soon drawn up between logres and rome, in the interest of defeating the emperor. in the beginning of winter, arthur, guinevere and the knights of the round table meet the romans for battle outside of bath. guinevere can only watch as her husband takes on lucius tiberius alone. luckily, arthur bests him and takes his head.logres' royals decide together to send the late emperor's head back to rome, declaring this to be their only tribute. following this, peace happened between the two empires.unfortunately, yet again camelot's peace was distrupted when arthur's nephew and ward, mordred. the young man tried to stage a coup for his uncle's throne, despite being a knight of the round table. due to the rising tensions in camelot, the younger man was successful and became king of logres.soon, guinevere accompanied arthur to the battlefield yet again, supporting him as her husband struck down their nephew. however, arthur and guinevere were both gravely injured in battle and were taken to avalon. once there, it was said that both the king and his queen would rise again.

guinevere pendragon is the wife of the legendary king arthur and queen of logres and england. she serves as arthur's right hand and ensures every decision they make is fair and balanced as they strive to create a better world.

guinevere pendragon remains arthur's wife though now in the twenty-first century. while he is an ancient history university professor, she is a museum curator. by night, they work as vigilantes to keep london safe.

canon verse, once upon a time

when the evil queen cast her first curse that sent everyone in the enchanted forest to storybrooke following the birth of emma swan, logres remained time frozen, protected by merlin's magic. this continued during the second curse as well. however, for an unknown reason, the protection failed during the third curse, transporting guinevere, arthur and some of the round table knights to storybrooke.
